Definition
Alligator clips are small metal clips with teeth that originally come from electrical engineering, but within BDSM are used as an instrument of torture for pain play (sensation play). They are applied mainly to the nipples, labia, scrotum or other sensitive areas of skin, and their sharp grip can cause intense sensations.

Placing alligator clips is sometimes a good way to bring someone down
Sometimes I see my subs struggling with themselves. During a whipping, when the tears burn behind the eyes and the body is still trying to flee in thought, I feel that a choice has to be made: stay stuck in the head or descend into the body. At that moment I often reach for the alligator clips or crocodile clips.
Those nasty little mouths that bite into the skin cause an immediate shock of pain. There is no escape any more; the mind falls silent, the breath catches and the only thing that still counts is feeling. That is precisely what makes these clips so valuable to me: they bring my sub into the here and now, back into the body, where real surrender begins.
Nasty little mouths
Alligator clips owe their name to their shape: small 'mouths' with serrated teeth, similar to those of an alligator. I appreciate them for their direct, fierce pain stimulus and the simple way they are applied. The sensation is sharp, sometimes grating, and can range from intensely unpleasant to deliciously painful, depending on the placement, the duration and the sensitivity of the sub.
The clips can be used loose, but can also be connected to each other with little chains or rope, which adds extra tension or weight. Think of small weights, pulling force or even a bondage position in which every movement causes pain. The effect often lies not only in the placement, but also in the removal: when a clip is taken off, the blood flows back and a second wave of burning pain arises.
Different uses
Alligator clips are used in various BDSM contexts:
During pain play (punishment or challenge)
In mindfuck games (threat, anticipation)
During orgasm control (for example in combination with nipple play or CBT)
As psychological control (“If you move, you pull on the chain”)
Although alligator clips are fairly small, they can cause serious damage if used carelessly. The teeth can break or bruise the skin, and if the blood supply is cut off for a long time there is a risk of tissue damage. Pulling the crocodile clips off the nipples without opening them first is NOT an option. Know what you are doing.
Safety & points of attention
Maximum duration: 3 to 5 minutes per spot. Longer increases the risk of damage to or death of tissue.
Do not use on the face, clitoris, penis or other areas with very thin skin or many blood vessels.
Disinfect before and after use. Especially if the clips have previously caused small wounds.
Build up tension. Start with gentle pressure and increase gradually, possibly starting with clothes pegs for beginners.
Remove clips slowly and support the spot. The return of blood flow can be painful and cause fainting.
Check on your sub. Watch for pale skin, discolouration, numbness or clammy reactions - all signs to stop immediately.
Want to make it less intense? Line the inside of the clip with a piece of rubber or felt for cushioning, or use them over clothing or tape as an intermediate layer.
