“The maid experience: what's behind it?“ was written for BDSMforyou.nl by Mistress Moriah.

One much-fantasised experience within the world of BDSM is the role of the maid. Of course, entirely in service of the Dominant. Of course, the maid wears a lovely, fitting outfit. Often these are men who rarely do anything around the house at home, but who are more than happy to get down on their knees for the right Dominant to scrub the floor. In my experience... unfortunately most maids are useless cleaners, and sometimes you even have to explain to them how the vacuum cleaner works.

The maid experience: what's behind it?

Spick and span

Several times a week there is a potential maid or cleaning slave offering himself to clean my house. In theory that sounds absolutely wonderful, it's lovely when someone makes everything spick and span again. The reality is different, though. I don't want to generalise, but in practice I've found that 90% of the applications are fake. They probably only find cleaning exciting in their fantasy, but when it comes down to it, they often don't turn up and never mop my floor. They're completely useless to you and are ruled out from the start.

Explaining everything

Then there's a handful who do turn up, but who are of no use to you whatsoever. They really don't know how to scrub a floor or wash the windows. As a Lady you constantly have to stay on top of them and explain everything. In that time I might as well do it myself, because I really can't be bothered. With me, cleaning means cleaning. I'm clear about that.

With a bit of luck you'll find that one exception who is both reliable and good at cleaning. Then you can count yourself lucky as a Lady, but by the time you've found him, you've probably already given up the search through that tsunami of wannabes. Because believe me, when it comes to cleaning slaves and/or maids, there's so much chaff among the wheat that you wonder whether any wheat still exists.

The experience behind the cleaning

Nobody really enjoys doing housework, it's a necessary evil. So what is the experience behind the cleaning slave or maid? It's mostly not about the physical labour, it's mainly about the mental aspect. It's a completely new experience for someone who in daily life is used to the housework “taking care of itself.” For the experience, it's not so much about the work itself, but rather a mix of:

  • doing something for someone else (without expecting anything in return)

  • clearing your head, losing yourself in nothingness

  • repetitive work can be meditative

  • wanting to pamper the Lady, to make her happy

  • giving in to the feminine sides (which every man has)

  • pushing (mental) boundaries

  • cleaning is seen as the ultimate form of servitude

  • experiencing no responsibility for a while

  • it gives a liberating and (literally) tidy feeling

  • you're being useful, which emphasises your "being"

  • looking for appreciation

  • wanting to feel proud (tidy looks neat, it's visible what you've done)

  • literally cleaning something can give mental processing (or forgiveness towards yourself)

Pride and liberation

When the work is done and everything is gleaming, a sense of pride can well up in the cleaning slave or maid. A neatly sorted drawer, a carefully folded pile of towels – it's the little things that make the difference and that someone can be proud of. Of course there may be more reasons, because everyone experiences it in their own way and takes their own specific things from it.

Servitude is about power and surrender. By handing over control and literally surrendering to the housework, some people feel a kind of liberation that they wouldn't experience in everyday life. They can let go of themselves for a while and devote themselves completely to the idea of servitude, without more being expected of them than that.

While cleaning, you don't have to think about anything else, you can lose yourself completely in the moment. Living in the now. How wonderful that can be for many people who are always chasing their own tail. Always in a hurry, always pursued by the daily hustle and bustle and responsibilities. But once you're on your knees with a wet mop in your hands, there's only that floor that has to be clean. And that Lady who will judge it critically.
