Do you find cuffs just as captivating a subject? Okay, bad joke. But there is of course a kernel of truth in it, because being cuffed for the first time is pretty exciting. And so is putting cuffs on someone for the first time. Who still remembers their first time? Standing in front of a Dominant, full of fear and anticipation, as the wrist cuffs and ankle cuffs were put on you. Because what was she/he going to do to you?

A Captivating Story About Restraints

Restricting freedom

Cuffs are excellent products for securing a sub and restricting his freedom of movement. The wrist cuffs can be fastened together behind the back, the ankle cuffs together as well, and you don't even really need anything to attach him to, because he won't get very far. Cuffs are perfectly suited to restricting freedom. Suitable for both arms and legs.

Cuffs come in all kinds of types and sizes. For the beginner there are cute, soft, fluffy versions, but if you want to play harder you need different material. Think of leather cuffs or metal cuffs. Rope can also be an excellent option, by the way. It's at least as quick to put on, and the advantage is that you immediately have a leash at your disposal.

Experiencing power

Putting someone in cuffs doesn't only restrict their freedom, it is just as much an experience of power. It shows very clearly who is in charge. And he is not. That should be clear. There are even cuffs you can fasten with a little padlock. That way you know for certain that the other person cannot decide when the cuffs come off. Without the key, which is no doubt hanging around your neck, not much is going to happen.

Exciting!

For the beginner sub, having cuffs put on can be quite an experience in itself. Let him get used to the feeling calmly. It is the beginning of complete surrender, and as soon as these cuffs are on his limbs, he will absolutely experience it as such. Give him time to get used to it. But even for the die-hard well-trained sub, putting on the cuffs is the starting signal for "trouble in paradise"... Exciting!

A bit of history (always fun)

Let's start with a journey back in time. Cuffs have a rich history that goes back to antiquity. The Romans already used them to transport prisoners and impose their will. Think of the ancient gladiators who were shackled to one another or to carts, just like in the film "Gladiator". A tad dramatic, but then the Romans did love a show.

Throughout the centuries, cuffs have been used in all kinds of shapes and sizes. From medieval dungeons to the slave trade, these metal horrors have known many dark periods. Nowadays, cuffs can be found in all kinds of shapes and materials. The classic handcuffs used by the police are efficient, sturdy and often made of stainless steel. No frills, purely functional. Perfect for cuffing that troublesome criminal – literally and figuratively.

But there are also less functional types. Take velvet-soft cuffs, for example. They are available in all the colours of the rainbow and are often lined with plush or leather for extra comfort. You would almost forget you're restrained.

With GPS trackers

And then there are the high-tech cuffs with built-in locks and even GPS trackers. For people who really don't want any way out. Or for those few people who forget where they left their partner tied up. Handy if you can find him again in that dark forest... Because which tree was it again?

Captivating facts

Did you know there is a world championship in escaping from handcuffs? Yes, it really exists. Escape artists from all over the world come together to show how quickly they can get out of the most complex cuffs. Houdini would be proud.

The first patents for handcuffs date from the 19th century. The more modern cuffs with swivel hinges were invented by an Englishman named Hiatt. No wonder British detectives in books always have such a fondness for handcuffs.

Handcuffs can be opened with almost any thin, sturdy object, such as a pin or even a paperclip. Of course, this is only useful knowledge in case of emergency or if you're considering a career as an escape artist. Otherwise you simply stay nicely locked up until your Dominant frees you again.

Thumb cuffs are, as the name already says, cuffs for the thumbs. They are a small type of cuffs with which you can fasten the thumbs together. They're nice and small (so easy to take along) and quite effective. Really a standard must-have for your handbag or inside pocket.

A captivating future...

Cuffs keep evolving. They will become ever more advanced, with smart technologies ensuring they can only be opened by those who have the right password or biometric data. So less chance of escapes. Imagine your Dominant forgetting the password... then what?
