Abrasion or Arasion, a sanded sensation
“Abrasion or Arasion, a rough sensation” was written for BDSMforyou.nl by Mistress Moriah.
Have you ever heard of the term abrasion or arasion? I rarely come across the term myself. In fact, in all the years I’ve been actively involved in BDSM, both privately and professionally, I’ve never encountered the term. No sub has ever said, “I love abrasion.” However, I do occasionally use the sensation associated with it. Abrasion or arasion refers to stimulating or tickling the skin, and this can be done in various ways. So it’s time to delve a little deeper into it, because unfamiliarity breeds contempt!

What is Abrasion?
Abrasion is a process that occurs along coastlines and large bodies of water, in which land is slowly but surely worn away by the constant pounding of waves. Imagine waves crashing against the rocks day in and day out, each blow carrying away a small piece of the rock. Over time, the appearance of the coastline changes, and new shapes and structures are exposed by this constant battle between water and land. You might think that abrasion is only destructive, but it also plays an essential role in shaping habitats. Without this natural process, many coastal ecosystems would not exist. Think of the sand dunes that offer protection against storms while simultaneously supporting unique ecosystems.
Abrasion within BDSM
BDSM can be an intense experience, but of course we don’t create new habitats within BDSM. Within BDSM, it is an activity used to stimulate the skin. This can be done very gently and softly, for example with your fingers or a fluffy item, but you can of course also do it more intensely by rubbing the skin with, for example, a scouring pad, (steel) brush, pot scrubber, sandpaper, dish brush, toilet brush, hairbrush, toothbrush, horse brush, dog comb, or other rough surface against the skin. From soft to hard.
To achieve the ultimate effect, vary the intensity. Soft, hard, medium. This increases the impact.
No expensive toys
The advantage is that you don’t need expensive toys for this; just dive into your kitchen cabinet and grab some household items. You probably still have a scouring pad or sandpaper lying around. Please make sure it’s something that hasn’t been used before – scrubbing will, of course, damage the skin.
Use this form of intensity, for example, when the sub is blindfolded, for variety. So mix different forms of pain stimuli together so that he gets confused and no longer knows what to prepare for or focus on. That will clear his head, and that is, after all, what you want to achieve.
Abrasion can be applied to various parts of the body; it just depends on what you feel like doing. It has no deep impact and therefore does not penetrate beyond the skin.
Birching
Another form of abrasion is “birching,” in which someone is struck or brushed with a handful of twigs and leaves. Similar activities are performed with a handful of sand.
Abrasion and Safety
The skin is there for a reason; it protects us from pathogens, sunlight, and harmful substances. It’s an important function that you’ll be disrupting with your abrasion. So it’s crucial to practice good hygiene. First, it’s important to use only clean items – not the scouring pad you just used to clean the pots.
Afterward, any wounds or injuries must be treated properly, and all precautions must be taken to prevent the risk of HIV and other STIs during such play.
Cleaning
Dispose of the product afterward or clean it for possible reuse. Sponges can go in the washing machine; brushes can be cleaned with a toy cleaner or disinfectant. Of course, you can also rinse the sponge thoroughly and have your sub scrub your floor with it. At least that way, he’ll be making himself useful.
