Playing with dildos: the realistic dildo and the African Lover

Dildos are one of the best-selling products in sex shops. You can do all sorts of things with them and they can be used for many different kinds of play, by both men and women. My little weakling could still use some training, both at the front (orally) and at the back, so I decided to look for two nice dildos to practise with. I chose a realistic dildo and a challenging African Lover. Both come with a handy suction cup.

What should you look out for when buying a dildo?
First of all, it's useful to choose the right size, and of course that depends a little on what (or who) you want to use the dildo for. A suction cup can also be very handy, so you can stand it somewhere or stick it against something (a door, a wall, etc.). That way it can be set at exactly the right height for, say, a good blow job.
When buying, also watch out for plasticisers in the product. Plasticisers, or phthalates, are chemicals that make hard plastics flexible. Unfortunately, some of these substances can be harmful to your health. They can cause skin irritation and, with prolonged exposure, even hormonal disruption. Nobody is waiting for that, of course.
What does Dutch legislation say?
In the Netherlands, the sale of products containing certain harmful phthalates is restricted. The European Union has drawn up strict rules to protect consumers from these substances. Still, that doesn't mean every toy in the shop is automatically safe. So keep paying attention!
The temptation of cheap prices on international platforms is great. However, products from countries outside the EU, such as China, are not subject to the same strict regulations. This means there is a greater chance of toys containing harmful substances. On top of that, it is harder to enforce warranty or return rights with international purchases. Dutch webshops, such as Erotic Treasure, fall under EU legislation, which offers a certain degree of safety.
Realistic dildo 22 cm – with suction cup
This dildo has a realistic look, complete with testicles and a pink head. It is 22 cm long (of which 15.6 cm is the penetrating shaft), has a diameter of 3.6 cm and comes with a suction cup. This means it can be attached to any smooth surface. It is flexible, so you can easily bend it into all sorts of positions.
The dildo can be used standalone, but it also works perfectly well in a strap-on harness! Of course, don't forget to use plenty of lubricant (water-based), because, well... a dildo is and remains a dildo, and it doesn't get wet by itself.
The price
The realistic 22 cm dildo currently costs 29.95 euros. In my experience, prices of sex toys can fluctuate quite a bit, so it may well be cheaper or more expensive after a while.

African Lover 23 cm – dark dildo
This beautiful black dildo is 23 cm long (of which the insertable length is no less than 20 cm), has a diameter of 4.5 cm and comes with a suction cup. It is pleasantly flexible, completely waterproof and made of high-quality PVC.
You can use the African Lover dildo standalone (and hands-free) just fine, but it also fits perfectly in a strap-on harness. In short, a great multifunctional dildo in a somewhat larger size, and so a lovely challenge if you are already a bit further along with your anal training.
The price
The realistic 22 cm dildo currently costs 24.95 euros (reduced from 29.95). In my experience, prices of sex toys can fluctuate quite a bit, so it may well be cheaper or more expensive after a while.

Keep your dildos in top condition
A clean dildo is a happy dildo. Here are a few tips to keep your toys fresh and clean:
Cleaning
Wash your toy before and after every use with warm water and mild soap. Avoid harsh cleaning products; your dildo doesn't like a chemical attack.
Storage
Store your toys in a clean, dry place, preferably in a separate bag or box. This prevents dust build-up and unwanted interactions between materials.
Inspection
Check regularly for small cracks, discolouration or other signs of wear. A damaged toy can harbour bacteria and is a no-go.
