"Schumann resonance: BDSM as an answer to a world thrown out of balance" was written for BDSMforyou.nl by Mistress Moriah.

A while ago I read something about the Schumann resonance, also known as the heartbeat of the earth. I knew the name vaguely, but I gathered from the text that there had recently been a kind of disturbance (24 - 27 May 2025). It made me think about the idea that this natural frequency, which has lain beneath our being human for millions of years like a kind of energetic foundation, could in theory be manipulated. And then what?

Schumann resonance: BDSM as an answer to a world thrown out of balance

I felt a kind of alarm bell go off straight away. Because what if that were true? What if there are forces - technological (HAARP, ELF waves, space-controlled EM sources) or power-driven - that could disrupt this subtle but essential vibration? What would that do to us as human beings? To our bodies, our consciousness, our peace of mind?

Second thought...

And then a second thought came. If that happens… what do we have left to fall back on? An answer actually came up in me straight away: BDSM.

Maybe you're thinking now: "Oh, here she goes again...". That's fine, you can happily click this blog away. But if you're triggered anyway and you like a bit of philosophising, then do read on, because I'm going to explain how I arrived at this answer.

What actually is the Schumann resonance?

The Schumann resonance is an electromagnetic vibration that arises between the earth's surface and the ionosphere. It measures roughly 7.83 Hz, a frequency that lies remarkably close to our own brainwaves at rest: the alpha state. That dreamy state between waking and sleeping, in which we are meditative, clear and connected. That state where time stands still for a moment.

Many people believe that this resonance is more than physics. It is a kind of energetic basis on which life plays out. A quiet tone that reminds us of who we are and where we come from.

What if that resonance is disturbed?

We live in a time of artificial waves: 5G, WiFi, satellites, digital noise. Everything is constantly 'on'. Some claim that this electromagnetic landscape has become so intense that it overshadows the earth's natural vibration. And yes, in theory powerful technologies could influence certain frequencies. Not just like that, but it is possible.

Suppose the Schumann resonance is disturbed, consciously or unconsciously. Then many people could experience unexplained feelings, such as: restlessness, dissociation, sleep problems, alienation. Precisely the symptoms that are quite common in our modern world.

And then?

Then you slowly lose contact with yourself. People experience it as unexplained restlessness, sleeping badly, inner noise, alienation. As if you are alive, but not quite here. As if your head is floating somewhere while your feet no longer touch the ground. And that is exactly what BDSM - the way many people experience it - does bring back.

BDSM can serve as a kind of ritual in which we:

  • restore our own biofrequency

  • activate the senses

  • release our emotional ballast (think of tears and orgasm)

  • and place ourselves back in the reality of the body

BDSM as a ritual of reconnection

In a world where everything happens in your head, BDSM brings you back to your body. Through breathing, touch, pain, intensity. It is pure grounding. Pure presence. A well-built experience, in which both partners are truly present, is like a ritual of returning.

You feel the skin, the sweat, the trembling in a tensed muscle, you hear your breathing quicken and you are seen, heard, guided or surrendered; you wake up. Not in your head, but in your body. The beautiful thing is that this applies to both roles. Both the Dominant and the sub come closer to themselves. Precisely because there is no room for distraction. Everything is here and now. Pure authenticity. Okay, that's a pleonasm, but you get what I mean.

The energetic power of the Dominant

And yes, let me say this too: for me it is more than play. It is energetic work. When I prepare a scene, I attune myself. To the other person, to myself and to the moment. Before someone stands in front of me, I take a moment for myself to calm my head. And when I play, I guide someone through layers of protection, insecurity and letting go.

Sometimes I literally see a sub sink back into his body. As if after a time of floating he finally finds ground under his feet again. As if the mist lifts for a moment. That is what real BDSM does: it wakes you up.

A spiritual counterforce

If the Schumann resonance is truly disturbed – or if we simply no longer feel it because of all the digital noise – then I believe we must consciously choose to stay connected. With the earth, our body and each other.

And BDSM, in its purest, most loving and most intense form, is a perfect instrument for that, for me. It is the place where truth becomes tangible. Where you can no longer distract yourself. Where your heart beats. Your body speaks. Your soul cries or laughs or falls silent.
