"Essential tools for your dungeon" was written for BDSMforyou.nl by Mistress Moriah.

If you are setting up your own dungeon, play attic or SM studio, there are a few tools that absolutely must not be missing, but that you may not think of first. These products can make the difference between life and death. That sounds very extreme, and it will not really happen often, but you never know when you might be that one time...

Essential tools for your dungeon

Bandage scissors or bondage safety scissors

Bondage can be incredibly sensual, beautiful and intense, but it also comes with risks. Ropes can become tighter than planned, a knot can accidentally press on the wrong spot, and someone can suddenly get an acute cramp or feel unwell. Bandage scissors or bondage safety scissors, with their blunt tips, are specially designed to cut through materials quickly and safely, without damaging the skin.

Before you start with ropes or cling film, you should have these scissors within easy reach. I use these bondage safety scissors myself (see photo) because they not only offer a lot of safety, but with their matt black colour they also have a tough look. At a length of 17.78 cm and made from high-quality stainless steel and ABS, these scissors are an absolute winner.

The scissors glide effortlessly through rope, tape, cable ties or cling film, without any risk to the skin. So they are perfect for those moments when you need to get someone free as quickly as possible.

The price

The bondage safety scissors currently cost 11,95 euros (reduced from 13,95 euros). In my experience, prices of sex toys can fluctuate quite a lot, so it is quite possible that they will be cheaper or more expensive after a while.

Panic hooks

If you want to fasten someone, for example to a St Andrew's cross, make sure panic hooks are always attached. Anything can happen that makes someone feel unwell. Their blood sugar suddenly drops, extreme arousal causes increased blood flow to the private parts, or they pass out for some other reason. If you have not used panic hooks at such a moment, you will never get someone off that cross on your own. Panic hooks are designed to release instantly under pressure, which means you can go from 'oh no' to 'everything under control' in the blink of an eye.

With panic hooks, you can free someone in a fraction of a second, without needing help from others. With one simple movement of the hand the hooks come loose, even if someone is hanging in restraints. They cost only a few euros and they are an absolute must-have for every serious BDSM space.

Toy cleaner

I surely do not need to tell you that hygiene is important. Toys should always be cleaned thoroughly afterwards to prevent bacteria from throwing a party. A good toy cleaner makes sure your toys are clean, fresh and ready for use.

First aid kit

BDSM is never without risk, and even with the best preparation or experience, things can go wrong. Perhaps a graze, a cut, a bruise or an unexpected allergic reaction. A well-stocked first aid kit is therefore no luxury. Think of plasters, disinfectant, gauze pads and maybe even a cold pack. Having these basics within easy reach means you can respond quickly to small accidents, so your session does not have to end abruptly. Plaster on, kiss it better and carry ooooooooon!

Fire extinguisher

Candles, incense and other atmospheric elements can take the ambience of your dungeon to a higher level. But where there is fire, there is potential danger. Having a small fire extinguisher nearby is therefore no luxury. You hope you never need it, but if you do, you will be glad you have it.
