I love CBT… so when I saw this Tom’s Spikes CBT Tool, I was immediately excited about its tough and above all painful look. This promised pain. A lot of pain. It is described as a ‘cock ring’, but you can also use it perfectly well on the balls.
Luckily I had my sub tied up firmly when I unpacked this CBT tool, because I saw the fear in his eyes when he saw it. I'm sure he would have run away as fast as he could if he'd had the chance. But he didn't. The first thing he shouted was: ‘What kind of horrific device is that!’ And so the nickname for this product was born. ‘The Horrible Horror’. And that's what it is… This device delivers what it promises: pain. A lot of pain.

Tom’s Spikes CBT Tool
However, it doesn't just cause pain, it also demands a fair amount of patience from the Mistress. First all those little spikes have to be unscrewed (it is delivered with the spikes turned inwards). … Unscrewing 28 spikes puts my patience to the test. Because turning one out a bit too far means chasing after your spike as it rolls across the floor. There was no point asking my sub. He was standing there, tied up and helpless, just watching. The advantage of this little chore, though, was that his tension only kept building.
Because my sub can't take that much on his cock, I placed the clamp around his balls. Pay close attention that no bits of skin get caught. Not only at the closure, but also at the hinge it is possible to pinch a bit of skin. Pain is fun, but it has to be targeted pain. Trapped skin is no fun for anyone. So watch out for this.
Before I had even tightened a single spike, I could already hear my sub moaning nicely… and of course that only got more intense as I tightened the spikes one by one, so that the sharp points were screwed deeper into his balls.
In practice
The CBT tool is delivered in a fabric pouch. The advantage of this is that the supplied Allen key can be stored safely with the tool. It would be a shame if you lost it and could no longer tighten or loosen the spikes.
The tool is made of stainless steel and can be used as a cock ring or ball clamp, depending a bit on the Mistress's preferences or the sub's (pain) limit. On the outside the screws are rounded off, so they don't hurt your hands. The sting is on the inside, because there the points are viciously sharp.
The Tom’s Spikes Stainless is delivered without a padlock. Personally I think that's a bit of a shame, because you really need the padlock. Without one you can't fasten it. Luckily I always have a few spare padlocks in my cupboard. If you don't, you can simply buy them at a DIY shop.
Labour-intensive product
It is a labour-intensive product. That means you really have to take your time with it. It takes quite a few minutes to unscrew all the spikes, and again quite a lot of time to tighten them once it is around the cock or balls. In itself this need not be a problem, because with BDSM you always have to take time to enjoy it. It is not suited as a ‘quickie’.
There are a few things I don't like about this product. First, the possibility of unscrewing the spikes completely. I would have preferred a ‘stopper’ on the spikes, so that it wasn't possible to unscrew them fully out of the ring. There could also have been a few fewer spikes, so there would have been more room to finish the spikes off on the outside with a very small wing nut. That would have made the Allen key unnecessary, which I personally would have found more practical.
In the sling
The last thing I liked less is the difficulty of tightening the spikes located at the back. Perhaps you can solve this problem by first hoisting your sub into a sling with his legs spread wide, so that you can reach everywhere easily.
So am I not happy with this tool? Yes, I am. It is absolutely a horrific device and I love that. It also does exactly what it promises: it causes quite a lot of pain. I wouldn't recommend it to a beginner in BDSM, though. As far as I'm concerned, this tool is for the more experienced BDSM player. And of course your sub has to love CBT…
When the ring is taken off again, the pain is less intense than, for example, when removing clamps. Taking it off is more of a relief than an extra torment. Provided you do it with care, of course. The idea is not to rip the skin open.

It's simply a really fun and tough device, and it's nicely made too. With a few small modifications I would have thought it a super tool, because I really love the idea behind this ‘Horrible Horror’.
