What is a zipper in BDSM?

Of course, you’re familiar with the word “zipper,” but in BDSM, it has a slightly different meaning than that thing on your pants or boots. A zipper is a string of linked clamps that are placed on the skin and then pulled off with a firm tug on the cord. Of course, you can also choose to remove them one by one, but that’s not nearly as much fun!

Where do you place the zipper?

There are plenty of fun places on the body to put the zipper. Think, for example, of the underside of the arms, the side of the body, or (my all-time favorite) on the balls. You place the clips neatly next to each other, and once they’ve been there for a while, you pull all the clips off at once when no one’s looking. If you’re thinking, “Doesn’t that hurt like crazy?” You’re right. That’s exactly what makes the zipper so fun.

How do you make a zipper?

Making a zipper is simple. You take a sturdy cord – I always use a leather cord for this – and thread a number of clothespins onto it. However, there is one important detail to keep in mind: the clamping force of the clothespins. It shouldn’t be too strong, because then you’ll rip the skin off your sub in one go. And that’s not the intention. Pain is fine. Intense pain is also fine, but your sub doesn’t need to be injured.

That’s why it’s best to choose wooden clothespins. These generally don’t have a strong clamping force, but always test this beforehand.

Hygiene

After using the zipper, throw the clothespins away or clean them with a good disinfectant or toy cleaner. Personally, I choose to throw them away because the clothespins aren’t expensive, but also because there’s a good chance that, after a single instance of brutal force, they won’t be in perfect condition anymore. As a result, there’s a good chance that next time, one (or more) clothespin(s) will sit crookedly on the skin, and that really does cause a lot of (unintended) pain. Additionally, wooden clothespins are porous, so you can never really clean them properly.
