What is a slapper or a patch?
“What is a paddle?” was written for BDSMforyou.nl by Mistress Moriah.
A slapper is a type of paddle made of rubber, leather, or PVC in the shape of an oval or rectangle. A slapper is also sometimes called a slap. It makes more noise (because the flaps slap against each other) than it actually hurts. It’s a bit like “barking dogs don’t bite.” A slapper is always fun to use in between other activities and leaves no marks.

Slap Sound
The slapper gets its name from the fact that, due to its second layer of leather, it produces a “slapping” sound upon impact. They are usually slightly longer and thinner than paddles and are often made of wood with leather. It is an excellent striking instrument for beginners, as it makes more noise than it actually hurts. Even when leaving marks is not allowed, the slapper is perfectly suitable for use.
What is the slapper made of?
Traditionally, slappers or paddles are made of wood, leather, or a combination of materials. They can also be made from modern materials such as plastic or rubber. The shape can vary from a simple, flat piece of wood to more complex designs with multiple layers or sections. The size can range from small and handy to larger, more imposing versions.
The instrument is usually used for disciplinary purposes, such as in educational or correctional settings. It can be used to strike the hands, buttocks, or other parts of the body, depending on the context and the intention behind its use.
No heavy impact
Because they aren’t very large and don’t deliver a heavy impact, they’re perfectly suitable for use on many parts of the body. You could even use two at once to “drum” on the sub or strike them in sync.
Slappers come in various designs. With text, images, stripes, hearts, holes – you name it. The effect won’t differ much, so just choose a slapper you like. Any spanking kit can use one or more slappers.
The history of the slapper
Historically, slappers and paddles were used in various settings, including schools, households, and even in military and naval contexts. Today, the use of this type of physical punishment has greatly declined or is even legally prohibited in many cultures and countries, especially when it comes to children. In BDSM, however, they are frequently used and are the perfect spanking accessories for the novice dominant or sub. After all, you can’t really go wrong with them.
