The Beauty of the Single Tail

“The Beauty of the Single Tail” was written for BDSMforyou.nl by Mistress Moriah.

A “single tail” refers to a type of whip with a single tail or lash. This is in contrast to whips with multiple tails, such as the “cat o’-nine-tails.” The single-tail whip is a versatile instrument and can vary in length, thickness, material, and design, depending on its intended use and the user’s preference. I find single tails incredibly sexy, and in my opinion, a lady can never have enough single tails hanging on her wall. The longer whips, in particular, are pure beauty. That’s just my personal opinion. Well, other ladies are happy with handbags, but this lady is happy with a beautiful whip.

The characteristics of the single-tail whip

A single-tail whip typically consists of a handle and a single, long, flexible tail. This tail can be smooth or braided and is often made of materials such as leather, synthetic leather, rope, or even rubber. The length of the whip affects its impact and precision. Longer whips can deliver a greater impact but require more skill to handle accurately. Handling a single-tail whip correctly and safely requires skill and training. An inexperienced user may unintentionally injure themselves or others.

The characteristic sound

The whip is known for the distinctive cracking sound it makes when swung at high speed and the tail cuts through the air.

The use of the single tail

In addition to its use within BDSM, the single tail is also used for other purposes. These range from herding livestock and horseback riding to sporting and recreational activities. In some cultures, single-tail whips have historical and symbolic meanings. They have also been used in various historical contexts, both for work (such as herding livestock) and in criminal and disciplinary situations.

How do you practice with a single-tail whip?

It’s best to practice on a cushion before you start on your sub or slave. Learn different striking techniques. Underhand, overhand, a horizontal strike – they all have a different impact. It takes months to master the whip so you can strike exactly where you want to. So it’s not a whip to be used casually – without practice – during play. You can seriously injure the other person with it.

Practice makes perfect

The single tail is not a beginner’s whip. There are various types of single tails, such as the Bullwhip, Stock whip, Snakes, Signal, Stick whip, Multitail, and many more. Due to its length, a single tail is somewhat more difficult to handle and certainly leaves its mark on your sub. A little (or a lot of) practice before you start taking it out on your slave is therefore highly recommended.

Bullwhip

Of all the single tails, the bullwhip probably appeals most to the imagination. The length of this whip can vary from 1.80 to 3.60 meters. It usually has a wooden handle covered in leather. The most ideal leather for a single tail is kangaroo leather, as it has a very compact structure. The wide part of a good bullwhip has a braid of at least 12 strands. Toward the tip of the whip, that number can decrease to 6.

The availability of a good bullwhip is limited in the Netherlands. You’re better off looking in Australia or North America. However, they are not cheap. A good bullwhip easily costs around 400 euros (5 feet), rising to about 700 euros (12 feet). And I’m talking about “starting at” prices, because in the David Morgan webshop I also see bullwhips for around 1,600 euros.
