The use of hooks in BDSM

“The Use of Hooks in BDSM” was written for BDSMforyou.nl by Mistress Moriah.

Chains and hooks are widely used in BDSM, primarily to securely restrain the sub or as a tool in bondage. There are all kinds of hooks, which not only look different but also serve various functions. That’s why we’re writing this blog. Let’s take a closer look at those hooks.

Het gebruik van haken in de BDSM

What is a carabiner?

A carabiner is a hook with a sliding part that completely closes the opening. These hooks are used in situations where a connection needs to be made quickly. The name originates from the use of these hooks to hang a musket. Carabiner hooks are sometimes incorrectly referred to as snap hooks. The difference is that a carabiner hook does not have a sliding part but a hinged part.

A snap hook is widely used to secure chains or buoys. It’s always handy to keep a few on hand. They are available in all shapes and sizes at hardware stores.

What is a carabiner?

A carabiner has a hinged closure. It is a metal loop with a spring inside for automatic closure. The carabiner is used to connect components quickly and easily, particularly in critical safety systems or, for example, in bondage. They can also be used on handcuffs, allowing them to be easily linked together.

What is a panic hook?

This is the most important hook and is an absolute must-have in your BDSM collection. This hook can literally save lives. A panic hook, panic clasp, or snap clasp is a fastener that – unlike, for example, a carabiner or a snap hook – can be opened under load, even with one hand. Panic hooks are used wherever connections need to be released quickly, even when under tension. This is often the case in an emergency.

Make sure your starfish is equipped with panic hooks, because if your sub becomes unwell and is secured without these panic hooks, you’ll barely be able to release them. With these panic hooks, however, it’s a piece of cake. They can be released with a single simple movement.

What is a D-ring

The D-ring is a solid metal ring shaped like a D. These multifunctional metal rings are thin and strong and are widely used to make connections. You’ll often find them standard on restraints. You can easily attach another hook to them.

What is an anal hook?

An anal hook, also known as a bondage hook, is used during bondage. They are available in various designs and sizes. They are easy to use. You apply some lubricant, gently insert the hook into the anus, and then carefully tie a rope to the ring (opposite the ball that goes into the anus).

A bondage hook is not intended to hoist or suspend someone. You should also avoid applying too much force during bondage to prevent damaging the delicate tissue in the anus.

What is a vaginal hook?

The vaginal hook serves the same purpose as the anal hook, so it is also a bondage hook, but this hook is not used anally, but vaginally. Using some lubricant, you insert the hook and then tie the rope to the hook to begin the bondage.

What is a nose hook

The nose hook is also intended as part of bondage. However, it is not used anally or vaginally, but is attached to the nose. You can find more information about using the nose hook on this page.

What is a bondage ring?

Okay, this might not be a hook, but it definitely belongs on this list. The bondage ring is intended as part of bondage. You can attach the bondage rope to the ring in various ways.

What is a hogtie clip?

Hogtie clip is designed for creating a hogtie bondage. You can easily attach them to your wrist and ankle cuffs. The hooks can – if all goes well – be rotated so that tying them up is easy. The hooks are connected to a round inner ring via leather straps.
