What exactly is ponyplay? Ponyplay is a role-playing game in which one (or more) people play the role of a pony and the other acts as the handler. It doesn’t have much to do with BDSM and is therefore better classified under role-playing games. If you’re in a BDSM relationship, it’s quite possible that you normally enjoy being dominant or the giver, but in ponyplay, you experience it the other way around. Just like with BDSM, there are different experiences.
What do you need?
You can get as creative as you like with the gear, but it’s not necessary. Just go with your own preferences or needs. Think of bit gags, bridles, saddles, whips, harnesses, hoof boots, and butt plug tails. For some people, part of the experience is in the outfit itself. So just do whatever feels most comfortable for you.
Saddles are available for ponyplay. For a bridle, it’s best to use an original Shetland halter, but there are also masks and headpieces with ears available.
There are different disciplines, just like in real equestrian sports. In the Netherlands, cart dressage is the most common. This involves moving gracefully and neatly in various gaits. Jumping is also possible. In the U.S., many competitions are held in this discipline.
The terms used all come from equestrian sports.
Different Variations
Like many games, ponyplay also has different variations. For example, there are: “Cart Pony, Riding Pony, and Show Pony.” Each game has its own dynamics and characteristics. One focuses more on demonstrating dressage skills, while another involves riding the pony.
Show Pony
Here, the focus is primarily on appearance; the costume plays an important role. Additionally, the pony demonstrates traditional dressage skills. So, everything revolves around presentation.
Riding Pony
In this game type, the dominant rides the pony. The pony assumes a four-legged stance, and the rider sits on its back. The rider’s legs serve a supportive function.
Cart pony
The dominant is pulled by the pony in a cart. The pony walks on two legs.
How does a pony experience it?
During ponyplay, the pony can assume a four-legged stance, with the rider’s legs supporting him. For the pony, the experience of being at someone’s mercy is wonderful, as is the docility and acting like a pony. It can be an exciting experience, and you decide for yourself how “real” you want it to be. Some may experience it as degradation, while others love being able to feel completely like a “pony” for a moment; whether dominant or submissive plays no role in this category.
Where can you do ponyplay?
Ponyplay is a true outdoor activity that requires a lot of space. Ideally, the temperature should be above 15 degrees and below 25 degrees, and it should be dry. It’s also nice to have an outdoor location that isn’t visible to everyone. In the Netherlands, Vrouwe Timara and Stef regularly organize ponyplay gatherings on the grounds of the Mistique swingers’ club.
In Belgium, Marc van Vlaanderen is very active and regularly organizes international ponyplay days. If you want to try ponyplay, it’s best to reach out to these people. They also have equipment available for you to use so you can figure out if it’s right for you before committing to any costs.
The group of ponyplayers in Belgium and the Netherlands isn’t very large.
