The sensation of a vacuum bed or latex bed
“What is vanilla or vanilla sex?” was written for BDSMforyou.nl by Mistress Moriah.
A vacuum bed or latex bed consists of a frame (made of PVC tubing or metal) covered with latex. A person lies down on it, and then air is sucked out of the latex bag using a vacuum pump to create a vacuum.

Sensory deprivation
With some vacuum beds, the head remains exposed and the person can breathe normally, while with other latex beds, the head is also covered by the latex and a tube leads to the outside, through which the person receives oxygen. Some vacuum beds incorporate a related fetish and use a gas mask to facilitate breathing.
The sensation of a vacuum bed brings together several disciplines: bondage, latex, breath control, mummification, and sensory deprivation. Because the latex fits so tightly around the skin, external touch is experienced more intensely. In a vacuum bed, you are completely cut off from the world. It is therefore a very intense experience. It is somewhat less suitable for subs who suffer from claustrophobia.
The risks
When the head is also covered in latex, there is always a risk of suffocation. It is therefore extremely important that you keep a close eye on the sub to make sure everything is going well.
How do you care for latex?
I once had a latex bed – quite pricey and used only once. Unfortunately, I forgot about it, and it sat in the sunlight for a while. The only usable part left was the PVC tubing. I had to throw the latex straight into the trash. Such a waste…
Latex is best stored in a low-light, low-air environment. This means you should first wrap the latex in chlorine-free paper and then store it in an airtight, black plastic bag. Pack it as light- and airtight as possible.
After using the latex, degrease the bag with hot water and a mild dish soap, then store it in talcum powder or Vivishine (or a similar product).
Pat the latex dry thoroughly and then hang it overnight on a wooden hanger (in the dark). Afterward, store the latex properly as described above.
Be careful with
Latex and oil don’t mix well, so it’s best not to use body lotion or massage oil when using the latex bed. Also avoid products like baby shampoo, baby talcum powder, plastic storage bags, and duct tape. Be careful with long nails, jewelry, cigarettes, buckles, or other sharp objects.
