Recently my private sub asked me: "What else is on your BDSM bucket list, Mistress?" Or something along those lines. If you ask me what is still on my BDSM wish list, one of the things is playing in the great outdoors. A place in nature where purity, freedom, tension, beauty and intensity meet. Both in location and in experience. However, for me there is a limit or no-go that I don't want to cross. That is that I don't want to confront innocent people with BDSM. When they go for a walk somewhere, with or without a dog, they haven't asked to be confronted with BDSM.

Without any prior knowledge, this confrontation can after all be quite shocking. And that is not my intention. I think it is absolutely important to make BDSM known to a wider audience. To show how beautiful and loving BDSM can be. But never confronting or even provocative without being asked.

Naked, tied to a tree

Unfortunately it seems to be busy almost everywhere in the Netherlands... and a private location is just a touch different, in my view. That is why it is still on my wish list. And yes, I really have made my schlemiel crawl through the woods on a leash and wearing a mask. But to me that is something else than tying him naked to a tree, where my bulls can embrace him tightly. A mask is quickly taken off, but when you are tied up naked, it is a lot harder to transform yourself at lightning speed into a socially acceptable "standard look".

Untamed elements of the great outdoors

There is something irresistible about the combination of the raw, untamed elements of nature and the world of BDSM. While the wind rustles through the trees and sunbeams break through the foliage, a magical atmosphere arises. Tension, beauty and freedom seem to come together here. Perhaps it is the thought that in a natural environment you can be completely yourself. Away from everyday rules and expectations.

To me this sounds like the perfect escape from the daily grind. It is an invitation to explore boundaries. Both literally and figuratively, and to enjoy an experience that is challenging and liberating.

What makes this combination so irresistible?

The answer lies in the thrill of the unexpected. BDSM in nature plays with the duality of control and surrender. The surroundings add an extra dimension to every scene. The mysterious sounds of the forest, the soft whisper of the wind. The subtle presence of nature itself gives every touch and every moment an intensity that you can hardly match within the walls of a playroom. It is as if nature itself becomes complicit in this adventure. A silent witness to the play of ultimate duality, desire and love.

Is it legal, BDSM in the great outdoors?

In principle there is nothing wrong with enjoying your adventures in remote places or on private land, provided you take local regulations on public order and privacy into account. In the Netherlands there is generally room for personal freedom, but it is important to make sure you don't offend bystanders and that you therefore act discreetly.

Legislation can vary by municipality or region, and what is seen as harmless in one area may raise questions elsewhere. That is why it is wise to read up properly beforehand. Of course I am not a lawyer, so please don't see these words as definitive advice, but as a well-meant hint to prepare yourself well. After all, discretion, consent and mutual respect are the basis of a successful BDSM adventure. The passer-by who happens to be walking his dog has never given consent to this confrontation.

Of course it also depends on what exactly you have in mind. Bondage with clothes on is a very different confrontation from a naked, tied-up sub with a mask over his head and red welts on his body...

Ideal locations

When we look at ideal locations, nature offers an almost endless palette of possibilities. Think of a quiet edge of the woods where the dense vegetation and the soft whisper of nature create an intimate setting. Or how about a secluded beach where the waves act as an acoustic backing choir and the sand serves as a surprisingly comfortable surface?

Even an old farm with sprawling fields can turn out to be the perfect spot for a discreet and unique BDSM experience. Of course, it is not about just letting your sub loose anywhere; you can't do it without good preparation. Not only privacy is important, but safety too. Ultimately it is about finding a place where you can both lose yourselves completely in the experience, without constantly having to look around for fear of passers-by. That also comes at the expense of the intensity of the experience.

The experience

The tension comes mainly from the mental challenge of the balance between control and surrender in a setting that puts your senses on high alert. The awareness that you are in the middle of the wilderness, surrounded by the raw beauty of nature, gives every moment an almost mythical quality. Weather conditions

Snow, on the other hand, evokes a completely different picture. The cold, biting chill that strikes the skin, the pure, white world like an unspoilt canvas for playful contrasts of red, redder, reddest on the skin.

Rain? Another unpredictable wild card. A sudden shower can make a session in the great outdoors unexpectedly intense: wet clothes forming like a second skin around the body, drops running down a tense back. Every season offers a different backdrop, and ultimately it is about how you weave those natural elements into your play.
