Anal play is a broad term for all anal acts that fall under this kind of play. So whether it involves a butt plug, the use of a strap-on or milking, it all falls under “anal play”.

Anal play

The anus is one of the erogenous zones. The anus contains a lot of nerve endings, which makes stimulating it feel good. You can get an intense anal orgasm when you stimulate the sphincter together with other erogenous zones. Think of the glans or the prostate. The anus itself cannot trigger an orgasm, but it can make an orgasm more intense.

Lubricant

The anus does not lubricate itself, unlike the vagina. That is why using a lubricant is important. Preferably use a thick lubricant that does not dry out too quickly. There are even special gels for anal play. Silicone-based lubricant gives the longest-lasting glide, but be careful with it. Silicone anal toys cannot cope with gels made of the same material. The silicone can start to absorb into each other, which means there is a chance your toys will be damaged. In that case it is better to use a water-based lubricant.

Using fingers

Of course you can use your fingers to stimulate the prostate. But make sure your nails are not sharp, as the delicate skin of the sphincter can be damaged. That is why it is better to use an anal toy. If you are going to use toys, always use special anal toys and preferably no toys that are not made for the anus. These toys can slip inside because they usually do not have a flared base. Special anal toys do.

Rimming or licking the anus

Rimming is another word for licking the anus. It means stimulating the anus with the tongue. The term rimming is derived from the English word “rim”, meaning “edge”. While licking, the nerve endings in the anus are stimulated. It is a form of pleasure, but depending on how it is done it can also be a form of humiliation.

However, rimming is not without risk. You can transmit diseases. Think of E. coli (a bacterium found around the anus), but also hepatitis A, herpes simplex, syphilis and hepatitis B. To prevent these diseases, you can choose to use a dental dam.

Douching

With anal sex you may come across traces of faeces. This cannot always be completely avoided. Douching beforehand with lukewarm water can reduce this risk. However, bear in mind that douching also removes good bacteria that are needed for healthy bowel function. Douching can also cause small tears, which increases the risk of HIV or another STI.

You can douche with an enema nozzle (you attach it to the shower hose after unscrewing the shower head) or with a hand pump. Only use lukewarm water and never anything else. Your bowels cannot tolerate that well. Start douching at least an hour before sex. Before you start, you can first see whether you can poo (without straining). Use some lubricant to insert the nozzle or pump. Pay close attention to the temperature of the water before you begin. Try to relax as much as possible. Let the water flow in slowly until you feel that your bum is full. Then sit on the toilet and relax your anus. Let the water run out together with the poo.

Repeat this a few times until only clean water runs out. Then you are done douching.

Different anal toys

Strap-on

Using a strap-on is a very common fantasy within BDSM. For many men, being “taken” by a woman is incredibly exciting. The strap-on is a dildo that is attached in a harness. The woman wears this harness like a kind of pair of briefs, which gives her the ability to penetrate someone, man or woman.

There are quite a few types of strap-ons, from size XS to size XXXL. Which size you use depends a little on what the sub is used to. Using one is simple. You put the dildo in the harness, put a condom over it, and coat the dildo with plenty of lubricant so that it is ready for use. With a latex glove and some lubricant you can warm up the anus a little beforehand. Once that is done, you push the strap-on in a tiny bit. If that goes well, you move it back and forth a little and go a little further each time. Keep the bottle of lubricant within reach, because chances are you will need to squirt in some more along the way. When the dildo can go in completely and you can move it back and forth easily without it hurting, you can step up the pace.

Anal dildo

An anal dildo is the same as a normal dildo, but with a flat, wider base so that it cannot disappear into the anus. Do not go thicker than about 3 cm in diameter. Chances are that this is plenty for you. You can calmly move the dildo back and forth to stretch the sphincter. Do not forget the lubricant.

Anal beads

Anal beads consist of (sometimes increasingly larger) anal balls, made of plastic or silicone, connected to each other on a cord. They are also called “anal beads”. They come in different lengths, and the distance between the beads can also vary. You insert the string into the anus with lubricant, with the intention of pulling it out just before orgasm. Of course you can also simply leave them in. It is in any case a pleasant way to stretch the sphincter a little further. Pulled too early? Then you simply put them back in.

Butt plug

The butt plug is perhaps the best-known anal toy. You do not need to move a butt plug back and forth. It is suitable when the receiver enjoys a feeling of fullness. With a butt plug you can also train the anus yourself very well. They come in all kinds of shapes, models, sizes and materials. The advantage of a stainless steel butt plug: you can also do “temperature play” with it, alternating between warm and cold.

Prostate dildos

These dildos have a curved tip, which makes it easy to massage the prostate. You can move the dildo up and down yourself to stimulate the right spot.

Prostate vibrators

With a prostate vibrator you can do more than just massage the prostate. The vibrator also gives off vibrations, which can stimulate the prostate even more. This can make the orgasm even more intense.
